77 Percent of Gamers Switched Platforms Over the Experience, and Prediction Markets Are Redrawing the Map
Forget the console wars. The platform battle that matters in 2026 is being fought in load times and menus. Fullstory's 2026 Gambling and Gaming Survey, released September 22 and covering more than 1,000 United States consumers, found that 77 percent of respondents have switched gaming platforms because of the user experience, with 44 percent citing ease of use as the specific reason.
The numbers keep surprising. Trust and brand reputation topped the list of platform selection factors at 60 percent, just ahead of ease of use at 59 percent, while potential payouts or odds trailed at 51 percent. In other words, players rank a platform they trust and can navigate above the size of the prize. Speed matters too. 51 percent called fast platform performance crucial for coming back, and 79 percent said they value real time data and responsiveness highly.
The flip side is just as stark. 83 percent of respondents said they would be likely to stop using a platform after a negative digital experience, the kind involving complicated processes, slow loading or unclear information. In a market with endless alternatives, one rough session is enough to lose a customer. Fullstory president Jason Wolf put it plainly. With more options than ever, a seamless digital experience is becoming part of the value proposition itself.
Then there is the prediction market plot twist. 53 percent of bettors say they always or often compare prediction markets or gaming platforms before placing a bet, and 60 percent say prediction markets are changing how often they use traditional sportsbooks. Within that group, 35 percent use sportsbooks less often while 25 percent use both, picking the venue by event. Sports lead the prediction market categories, followed by financial events, politics and elections, and entertainment.
That comparison habit is the real disruption. Prediction markets have turned betting into comparison shopping, and the shoppers reward the smoothest interface. The survey even found personalization starting to matter, with 12 percent switching platforms over personalized features. The venue with the best odds can still lose the customer to the venue with the best app, and the data says that is happening at scale.
The takeaway for anyone building or choosing a platform is refreshingly old fashioned. Make it fast, make it clear, make it trustworthy. Odds and payouts still count, but they have become table stakes. In 2026 the house edge that matters most is measured in milliseconds and menu taps, and the platforms winning the future are the ones engineering every tap to feel effortless.
