Aero Unites Aerodrome and Velodrome Into One Liquidity Layer Across Seven Chains
DeFi's biggest merger just got a launch date. Aero, the unified protocol born from Aerodrome and Velodrome, will go live on October 21 across seven networks, the team confirmed September 25. The two predecessors already handle about 17 percent of all EVM spot trading volume, and the team expects Aero to triple that share. The deeper story is consolidation. Fragmented liquidity becomes one token, one incentive system, one set of contracts.
Until now, Aerodrome ruled Base and Velodrome ruled OP Mainnet, each with its own token and its own governance game. Aero folds both into a single AERO token and a single protocol built on Dromos Labs' MetaDEX03 architecture. The launch roster spans Base, Ethereum mainnet, OP Mainnet, Arc, Ink, Robinhood Chain, and Arbitrum, with Robinhood Chain and Arbitrum added in the September update. Every chain gets a full deployment, with AERO rewards flowing across all of them.
The design breaks with DeFi's weekly rhythm. Instead of vote and epoch cycles, Aero uses Predictive Allocation, where holders of staked AERO direct rewards to pools in real time and earn a share of exchange revenue as it accrues. Trading routes through Metaswaps, on chain routing that moves tokens across supported networks, replacing off chain market makers with protocol native paths. Liquidity providers get Slipstream concentrated liquidity pools, and an internal AER Engine sets reward rates in dollar terms while capping inflation against projected pool revenue, so emissions track activity rather than a fixed schedule.
The security story is unusually thorough. After months of private audits reporting zero critical or high severity findings, the team ran a public audit contest that closed with zero major issues identified. Aero Lite, a lighter Slipstream based version, is already live on Arc, giving some chains liquidity infrastructure ahead of the full stack. Permissionless market creation means any project can stand up a pool directly, and eligible pools can take incentive deposits to pull liquidity in before organic demand arrives.
The market is already voting. AERO surged 26.4 percent on the announcement, with trading volume up 224 percent and open interest up 56 percent. The single token model also concentrates value. The protocol promises 100 percent of exchange revenue to AERO stakers, and the token reached the market through open distribution rather than a private sale. Existing AERO and VELO holders migrate into the one token, which simplifies one of the messier corners of DeFi tokenomics into something a newcomer can actually understand.
The bigger picture is where this points. Robinhood Chain brings tokenized stocks to the deployment, Arbitrum brings deep liquidity, and Ethereum mainnet brings the assets. A unified liquidity layer across all of them is the infrastructure that lets tokenized everything trade in one place. DeFi grew up as a patchwork of chains and forks. Aero is a bet that the next phase belongs to protocols that treat the whole Ethereum ecosystem as one market.
